If you want to be a great and a successful programmer the initially you must avoid using the tools which helps in reducing the workload of developer. For example: IDEs. Making yourself over-comfortable with any specific language may lead you to dislike other languages which can downgrade yourself as a programmer. Let your mind be open for all the programming languages. (But, you can surely have your favourites. (Pheww…))

9) Self-Projects are worth giving a try!

Apart from the professional or the assignment workload you must always spare some time for self-projects which you decide for yourself. Always set a one level up target for the project. This will help you become a better programmer. You will learn some new things and enhance your skills. Working on multiple self-projects one after the other will stretch the boundaries of your knowledge and develop a passion towards your work.
